From idea to action

My new Chloé inspired shoes. They are hot but I haven't decided if I want to keep them or not because of the high heel. Not very practical for long walks. Again I'm facing the classic scenario: head vs. heart.

Square toe

The big shoe trend this season is the square toe. I remember this trend from a few years ago. It looks very nice and I hope it stays around for a long time.
I've never been a big fan of the pointy toe. I have preferred the round toe and now I'm eager to get a new pair of sqaure-toe shoes.
The ones from Chloe shown below are just gorgeous. Another great detail about them is the gold tip at the heel. I've seen the same detail on shoes in the budget stores lately so hopefully there will be many similar shoes around this spring.

Here comes the sun

Spring is in the air. So great to see the sun again. It makes me inspired to start a major cleanout of my closet.
Time to pack away the old stuff and look for some lighter summer clothes. For an inspiration, let's start with this fabulous Marc by Marc Jacobs shorts. Check out the lovely stacked sandals too. Hotness.

Good hair day

I swore I would never post something about the Olsen twins because I really don't like their style but I just have to comment on this. To transform her hair from platinum blond to a more natural shade was a brilliant idea.

M

by Madonna was released at H&M today. Anyone been there? What was it like?
I wonder if it caused the same hysteria as the Stella McCartney/V&R release. I don't think this line is considered as exclusive. According to an online report the glitter top was sold out first. My favourites were the catsuit and the leather jacket. Check it out at hm.com.

Say what?

Locher's is a small parisian fashion label with a twist. The idea is brilliant. The tops are beautifully embroidered with sweet delicate flowers. But the innocent first impression lies. When you look closer you can read different statements, totally unappropriate and surprising. Have a look and a laugh.

Accessorize

I've been trying to follow my own advice on getting more accessories. Sunglasses from HM. Very cool. Very Jackie O. Animal print scarf and fish necklace from Vila. Pink nail polish for a light spring/summer feel.

Ballerinas and sunglasses

I've never been a big fan of ballerinas but I think they look great on Gwen with this outfit. The look is comfortable and casual. Simple but stylish.
Love the Dior sunglasses too. If you're thinking about getting new sunglasses otticanet.com is a great place to look. Last year I ordered my sunglasses from here and they were half price compared to my local store. Fast delivery and great service. I felt a little bad using the local store just to try the different models but when the price is so much higher I couldn't help it.

Bitten

Yes, another celebrity clothing line is on the way... But this one seems really interesting. SJP is a true fashion icon, not only on screen but also in private so I think this can be a good thing.

Weekend shopping

The result of this weekends shopping spree: Black leather waist belt and red/purple nail polish. I wanted a darker colour with more brown but this is one works too.

And in the mailbox when I got home: the pair of LAMB tractor jeans I bought from ebay only a week ago.

Unshrinking a wool sweater - update

Blocking works. The only problem is that my poor sweater is now shaped as a stool! If you want to try blocking I strongly recommend you use something resembling a human body as stuffing.... :)
Tonight I will give it another go, hoping it will get back to it's original shape.

Power dressing

I believe in power dressing. I have experienced that the way I dress can have an effect on how others perceive me. Also, how I dress can actually change the way I feel inside.

I think we all know the feeling, accidentally you enter an exclusive high-end store, way past your budget. The staff hardly looks your way, and if they do it's with a patronizing look. It makes you feel very uncomfortable and you want to get out of there as fast as you can.
Later you return all dressed up in your best outfit. Most likely the staff will treat you differently this time. The reason for this is that your outfit and your attitude demands respect, you feel comfortable and in control of the situation.

Another example where power dressing works is important meetings or job interviews. If you're discussing important matters like your salary or employment you want to make a good impression and signal that you are a serious, committed and reliable person. The outfit can be decisive in situations like these.

If there is something special you want to achieve a carefully chosen outfit can make the difference.

Power dressing, does it work?
Yes, power dressing will give you advantages
It will give a good first impression but nothing more
No, what you wear means nothing

Words of wisdom

Coleen McLoughlin shared some fashion experiences in today's Metro:
"There is nothing worse than going out and feeling like you've worn the wrong thing. Work out what suits you and emphasise the body parts you like best. The only time I don't stick to that rule is with shoes; as long as they look good they can hurt me all they want."

So very true!

Uninspired

When it comes to dressing I've been quite uninspired lately. I think it has to do with the cold weather and the dark season. But now the first signs of spring are here and I hope to get more inspired. To give myself the extra kick and motivation I've decided to start posting some of my outfits again. So here we go, the first outfit-of-the-day post of 2007.

Unshrinking a wool sweater

When I was going to wash my gorgeous merino wool sweater last week I noticed the washing instructions said handwash. Being impatient and in a hurry I decided to try to wash it with the rest of my sweaters. This led to shrinking. Not too much, maybe one size. I'm so annoyed by this and has put down a lot of effort to fix it.

I've tried soaking it in lukewarm water with a wool detergent for about 10 minutes before stretching and laying it to dry in a cool place. Did not work....
The next thing I will try is soaking it with a lot of hair conditioner to see if this can help unlock the wool fibers before stretching.

If you have any experiences with this please let me know.

Same outfit different colour

Some interesting pictures of Hilary Duff. The exact same outfit in 2 different colours. I think I prefer the white although the black is also nice. More elegant but at the same time more plain.
