L.A.M.B sighting

Occasionally we get to see celebritites wearing pieces of LAMB. Actress Mena Suvari took it all the way and was dressed in LAMB from head to toe at the Factory Girl premiere in New York this week.

Snow

I really don't like it when the weather puts restrictions on what to wear. Like it has lately. We have tons of snow and it's really cold and slippery. In other words, heels and a light jacket is out of the question. I wear my Timerbland boots outdoors but bring a second pair of shoes for indoor use (the big bag trend is perfect for carrying lots of stuff). I hate wearing big bubbly jackets so I prefer to layer up under a thinner one. A wool cardigan or turtleneck is great. Also, I never leave the house without my cashmere LAMB scarf.

Fashion is art

Whoever claims that fashion is not art should take a look at the Christian Dior spring/summer 2007 Couture show. Every outfit is a masterpiece and truly a real work of art.

Sale

Shopping on sale can be a challenge. It's important not to get carried away and buy lots of things you don't really need and normally wouldn't buy if it wasn't on sale. Next is patience. The prices are normally further reduced as the sale goes on. Waiting can lead to an ever better buy but also disappointment as the item may get sold out. Last weekend I saw a pair of shoes that I liked. They were 50% off. I couldn't decide wheter to get them or not so I didn't buy them (they were still quite expensive). Throughout the week I decided to get them and went back this weekend. They were now 70% off. I was very pleased with the buy.

Black & White

Combining black and white in an outfit is very hot this season. I'm a big fan of this colour combination and wear it a lot. It's very simple yet elegant and gives a strong look.

Gwen has been wearing many black and white outfits lately, here at the NRJ awards this weekend. Looking great as always.

Worst dressed?

Cameron Diaz has been voted worst dressed at the Golden Globes awards all over the place. Is it just me or are they wrong? I think the girl has style. OK, maybe a bit too many ruffles but I think the outfit reflects originality and personality. The new hair colour suits her very well too.

Jennifer Garner has been voted (one of) the best dressed and I totally disagree so I guess that just prove that we all have different taste.

1. Cameron Diaz wore a Valentino dress
2. Jennifer Garner in a (in my taste) boring and shapeless Gucci gown

Nokia 7373

I love my new phone. It's so much better than my previous one. The battery lasts for much longer, the pictures are sharp and the menu interface is more user friendly. And best of all: it's super cute!

Hermès scarf

A star among the classic fashion pieces is the Hermès silk scarf.

The first Hermès silk scarf was produced in 1928. All the scarves are hand-printed and hand-stitched and made of their own silk. Every year 2 scarf collections are released, along with re-prints of older designs and limited editions.

The scarves have always been popular amongst celebrities. In 1956, Queen Elizabeth II wore a Hermès scarf in a portrait for a British stamp. When Grace broke her arm, she used an Hermes scarf as a sling. More recently Sharon Stone, Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna have all been photographed wearing them.

A silk scarf is the ultimate way to dress up any outfit and can be worn around the neck, on the shoulders, as a waist sash on jeans, hunging from a shoulder bag, on the head. The Hermès scarf is quite expensive but there are tons of replicas around.

Yellow

... is coming very strong this spring. Why not start right away by adding a touch of yellow to your wardrobe? Anything from pale lemon to bright sunflower goes.

net-a-porter gives some advice on how to wear yellow:
  • Pair yellow with white for a fresh 'daisy' combination
  • Use yellow as an uplifting accent to black or charcoal
  • Get used to wearing a bright colour by introducing it as a bag or shoe
  • Adopt the spring's sixties wibe with canary yellow
  • Try a pale lemon shade for a softer, sweeter way to wear yellow
  • Look out for combination prints, or yellow trims

For me personally, yellow doesn't suit my skin tone at all so the only time I can wear yellow up against the face is with a summer tan. Yellow accessories and details are a great option though.

Cake

OK, this post has absolutely nothing to do with fashion but I just have to show you guys the cake we made for the New Years Eve party. I'm definately not an experienced cook so I must admit I was very pleased with the result! :)

New makeup

Tonight I went shopping for a birthday gift and also bought some new makeup for myself. I seldom wear eyeshadow because I'm so bad at applying it. When I do I ask my sister to help me out. But I guess I have to learn it myself. I bought this palette from Dior and an eyeliner from Lancome. Hope it works out.

The ten commandments of fashion

Swedish aftonbladet.se provides us with the ten commandments of fashion. Very interesting reading. I shall obey!

1. Thou shalt honour the fabric and the craftwork

Go for quality, it's worth it. Quality doesn't have to be over expensive. Take really good care of your quality items and they will last for years.

2. Thou shalt use contrasts

Contrasts makes the outfit more interesting and adds extra effects. Mix fragile silk with leather, voluminous with skin tight, classic elegant with rough.

3. Thou shalt make the right investments

The key items are the most important ones so make the right priorities. Invest in high quality items that you wear on a everyday basis. Such as bags and shoes. Mix them with cheaper stuff that can be replaced more often.

4. Thou shalt seek balance

A volumnious top requires skinny pants. A volumnious skirt requires a tight top. Easy peasy.

5. Thou shalt dress simple

A personal style doesn't have to mean adding tons of details such as colours, patterns, embroidery and rosettes. Or at least, not all at one time. Focus one one or two things you want to emphasize. The details will look best if matched with simple and clean shapes and colours. For example, wear a silver sequins purse with an all black outfit. Less is more.

6. Thou shalt mix patterns with care.

Mixing patterns can be a disaster but do dare to try. Create harmony thorugh matching colours. Checks and stripes combined correctly can look great.

7. Thou shalt not wear clothes that are too small

There is a huge difference between tight fitting clothes and clothes that are too small. If the buttons pops or the arms are to short something is wrong.

8. Thou shalt adjust outfits to your own body

What colours suits you? What is your body type? What is the purpose of use for the outfit?Never copy a friend or a celebrity blindly without considering how it looks on you. Create your own independent style.

9. Thou shalt suffer pain to gain

A signature style requires a great amount of work and planning. Second best is never good enough. High heels, fresh makup, clean clothes in perfect condition always looks best. Consider how important it is for you to look good and level the degree of suffering to it.

10. Thou shalt have fun!

Everybody has to wear clothes so why not make it fun? Dare to try out new styles and ideas. Be inspired. Dress after what mood you're in. Feeling elegant? Show it! Make a statement.

Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty premiered on Norwegian TV yesterday and I found it quite entertaining. Very similar to the "The devil wears Prada" movie. A few great outfits and some wonderful shots of NYC.

Hot in 2007

Trend to lose: skull scarves, vests, wide belts
Trend to keep: bubble mini dresses, ankle boots, the shorts
New upcoming trends: jumpsuits, even higher waists, thin belts

One of the biggest trends in 2007 will be the jumpsuit. Short or long, wide or tight. Anything goes. It looks great with heels, preferably ankle boots but can also be worn with sandals for a more casual look.

Jumpsuits from 2007 collections: Biba, Dolce Gabbana, Versace

Gwen Stefani has been wearing jumpsuits at almost all her performances lately.

Happy new year!

2007 is here. As always it's hard to adjust to everyday life again after Christmas and New Year celebration. Time to leave the glitter and glam aside. January means time for a fresh start and time to get some new fashion impulses. I'm sure we will get an inspiring year of fashion.
